What to do when you need an urgent answer to your prayer by Elaine Davenport

Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. James 5: 16 (Amplified Bible)

I heard this story from a friend of mine who is a prayer warrior. She spent most of her time praying for other people. She was very content to do so. She struggled for many months on tithing her income out of a very tight budget. She knew that it was the right thing to do. She is married and at the time, her husband was not born again. He thought the whole idea of her tithing was stupid she said.

One day, the mailman ran and she went to get the mail. When she got to the kitchen her husband was reading the gas bill. It was a huge amount and there was a shut off notice that came with it. He was furious about it and told her to take care of it. My friend says that her monies were earmarked for other purposes, so she called the gas company to make payment arrangements. She says they told her: "No Deal."

She went to her husband to tell him and he furiously asked: "What happened to all of your money?" She didn't answer. She knew that he would not understand. It was the middle of the winter and this was a crisis. "You'd better get the money from somewhere." he replied. She said, that he had never seemed so serious about anything.

She told me that she only had one recourse; she went into her room and got down on her knees and began to pray.

SIDEBAR: My friend explained that she felt very confident in her prayer for several reasons; here are some of them:

1. She examines herself daily by the Word of God.
a. She forgives instantly
b. She repents for her sins daily (because she knows she's not perfect)

2. She loves, loves, loves

3. She's obedient to God's instructions

4. She's a tither and when she gives, it's from her heart.

5. She prays for other people, knowing that God will meet her prayer needs as a result.

She says that she made a demand on the covenant in her prayer. She said that she laid it all out before God in prayer and she just listened. She said God told her to call a number and that the lady on the phone would help her. The number was to the gas company. She called them and the lady didn't sound helpful at all as she laid out her dilemma to her. As my friend was about to hang up, she was given another number to call. By faith she said she called the number. As it turns out, it was a ministry that paid people's utility bills. My friend says the interesting point was that all they wanted to know was if she knew the Lord. Praise God. Her family's gas and light bills were paid by the ministry. She said that her husband was absolutely shocked. She also said that she thanked God and that she shares that story letting people know that God always shows up.
